Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Howdy folks and welcome to the latest installment of THE WEEKLY PREP THREAD!!!!
This week finds us inventorying the NCO household's long term food storage. What fun. Learned two important things while conducting the inventory. 1. Inventorying foodstuffs sux. 2. It's nice to finally have an amount of food put away that inventorying it is an actual PITA. 3. I need more foodstuffs! Ok, three things, but us Infantry guys aren't known for our mathematical prowess. Also canned a buttload of salsa this week. That didn't come out the way I wanted it to. I'll stop now... How's it going with y'all? |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Honed my soldering and plumbing skills with some major copper pipe repair. This included stocking up on 4 lbs of solder ($14 a lb!!!!), two gas tanks, and all the other supplies I could think of including a nice file and rasp set. I also added a random bunch of common joints and assorted pieces usefull in repairs and building. I shouldn't have to buy plumbing stuff for at least 5 years if all is normal.
Acquired 150 rds .22 at no cost. Set up my tackle box and two more reels for fishing. (aside from the line and hooks, no cost) Made war on the local ant population. I may have to retreat. |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Wife sent me up to the storage closet last night for paper towels and TP.
Yikes! We used to have 40 rolls of paper towels and 80 of TP... Down to less than 10 on the towels and 15 on the TP.... Time to stock up, local sale papers comes out on Wed, I sure hope someone is having a good sale. Found some older Calaphon cookware at a yard sale, back when it was made in the US and didn't have the teflon coating. Heavyweight anodized aluminum, two sauce pans and a two gallon stock pot for $6 dollars!!!!!! I'm sure they were over $200 new for the 3 pieces. Very good cookware.:ARMS1: |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Bought 250 more rounds of 45acp. I'm pretty comfortable with the pantry right now, and the gun cabinet, so I am back to buying some PM's. I can't afford much since the prices are up, but got a krug on the way and 20 GIM silver bull rounds.

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Nothing but the wife's new clothes which we think may be getting close to the end of inexpensive clothing till we find out how much more we need to spend getting our vehicles ship shape. The wife's car was low on transmission fluid and my truck has electrical problems.
We want to make these old vehicles our last gas drinkers and hold out for an air car and our own solar energy. But one is 20, one is 14 years old and both over 100k. The motors will likely last forever, but seals and such are getting very old. So we may have to buy 1 more used but newer gas drinker. We have our fingers crossed. There may be cheap clothes longer than I expect. I tend to think I am escaping at the last minute 2 years ahead. But cotton is up, oil that makes various fabrics is up, shipping is up, and the dollar keeps falling. |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Been a good week for the preps here.
Added 2 1/4 GAEs and a 1/10 GAE to my collection. Put in my APMEX order with 10 08 GIM rounds, 1 07 round, and about 20 ounces of other mixed silver goodies. Also picked up a nice digital scale for checking coins. Added about $900 FRNs to the home emergency cash stash. Picking up a Saiga 7.62 x 39 in a couple days. Added another 2200 22 lr rounds, 200 HP 9mm rounds, 3 more 30 round mags for the 22 lr. Got the wife a taser. Also going to hopefully pick up a Saiga 12 gauge. For food lets see, 20 pounds of deyhadrated potatos, my order of MH stuff from Vitacost in the past week which included 3 #10 cans of Ground Beef, a bunch of peanut butter, soups, honey and other stuff. Oh yeah can't forget that I picked up about a dozen different books off the list of books to read that is floating around GIM. Good stuff. Good week. |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
3 more cases of potato granules (99lbs). The granules are nice since they are so dense. There is almost 5 pounds per can, or about 20lbs of fresh potato per can.
Time to start stocking up on gravy. :bear_w00t: |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
60 more rounds of .308, 550 rds .22lr, another 100 shells for the 870 (plus a few donated 00B boomers to try out, I hear they're quite the load), several cases of canned beans, veggies, fruit, 50 lbs. oats, 20 lbs. rice, 6 5 gal. buckets, 15 gals water, a boatload of paper products... still need to get the mylar and O2 absorbers for the dry stuff.
I will be ordering my SA XD in 9mil this week to go with the long guns -(10 day waiting period, CA dontcha know), so I got some hollowpoints for that. OH! My GF decided to remind me recently that her dad has a 5 acre plot of family land in the Eastern WA state area reserved for her, part of a 20 acre plot he currently owns. If her sisters don't claim theirs, well, we may just have 15 acres! Looks like we may have a bugout place after all... still awaiting confirmation of that little bit of great news. I wouldn't have even gotten started doing all this prepping without GIM. I know I say this like every friggin' post, but thanks again y'all for sharing your ideas. You're helping a lot of folks. |

Nice man - serious preping there. E WA is generally a great place - full of outdoors folks - native americans - and sportsmen - plenty of isolated folks as well. you should trip out there and check it out - the landscape varies dramatically. I plan to look more seriously for some land out that way - or the olymic penninsula here within the next few months. I did some serious prepping this week too - new AR15 - 600 rounds - variety of canned goods, couple cases. |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 13 Jul - 19 Jul
Just filled 2 .50 cans with 1,000 rounds each of Golden Tiger 7.62X39 and 2 "Spam Cans" of Bulgarian 7.62X54 light ball.
Workingman's insurance, ya know. |
